Why would you seek
With mind so weak
And heart cast under shadow
For something lost,
Whate'er the cost -
What is this Eldorado?
And as you grow
In age, you know
That in this world of shadow
No gallant knight
Will see the light -
There is no Eldorado.
For we just look
In ancient books
As candles smother shadow,
Hoping to find
A clue, some kind
Of trace of Eldorado.
We can't accept
There is none, yet
Our hope still cuts the shadow:
For in ourselves
Is where gold dwells -
Within lies Eldorado.

I laud you how you respond to the goal of the knight which is subtle and refrained from making him seem foolish for seeking the city of wealth.
Thank you very much - I'm glad you liked it.
PS - The Conqueror Worm = fantastic. The last stanza gives me chills every time I read it.
